Golden Donor Blood Drive
There will be entertainment, raffles and give aways. Al Fischer, a Korean War veterans and resident of Massapequa who has donated over 40 gallons plus, will again donate blood. He is a candidate to enter the Guiness Book of World Records. Donors who have passed their 75th birthday can present a dated letter from their physician indicating it is safe to donate. This letter is valid for two months. For questions regarding travel and medical restrictions call 1-800-688-0900. Into the Woods
Hicksville United Methodist Church Off-Broadway will present Into the Woods Jan. 7 through Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. All tickets are reserved seating at a cost of $15 adults; $12 senior citizens and children under 12 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Into the Woods is being produced and directed by Dan Kani with Anthony Brindisi as musical director. The show will take place at Hicksville UMC, 130 W Old Country Rd. Basketball Free Throw Championship
Hosted by Holy Family Council, Knights of Columbus, at noon in the Holy Family School gym. Registration will start at 11:30 a.m. The event is open to girls and boys, ages 10 to14. The Glen Cove, Hicksville, Syosset Mercy League is holding a Military Bridge at Msgr. Tarrant Hall (handicapped accessible) of St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church Old School, Hicksville, on Jan. 24. Interpreter Service Workshop
The Long Island Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (LIRID) and Mill Neck Interpreter Service of Hicksville present a workshop entitled How Do I Interpret This and That? Presented by Jimmy Beldon in American Sign Language, the workshop will be held on Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nassau Community College in the CCB building, room 252. Beldon will provide an in-depth and practical understanding of skills for interpreters in both ASL and English. Participants will learn tips, receive feedback and have opportunities to take part in effective activities. Open to working interpreters, the workshop will earn participants 0.6 Continuing Education Units. Accommodations are available upon request. Registration deadline is Jan. 16. Fee is $50 per LIRID member; $75 per nonmember. Breakfast and lunch will be included compliments of LIRID. Voice interpreter services will not be available.
