Police: Feder Went Through Steady Red Light
A Huntington Station man was arrested after driving through a red light, hitting a Levittown man’s car, killing him on May 4.
According to detectives, Robert Feder, 51, of Huntington Station was observed by Nassau County Police Officers traveling westbound on Old Country Road, driving a 2010 Hyundai in an unsafe manner, violating several vehicle and traffic laws. Feder continued on Ellison/Maple Ave., drove through a steady red light at 11:55 a.m., striking a 1997 Buick, resulting in the death of Joseph Carney, 61, of Levittown, an employee at the County Attorney’s Office, police said.
A third vehicle waiting at the light was also struck. That driver was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. Subsequent to investigation, it was revealed that the defendant was operating a stolen vehicle, police said.
Feder was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Robert Feder is being charged with Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Driving While Impaired by Drugs, two counts of Reckless Driving, two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property (2010 Hyundai and the Florida registration plates), two counts of Criminal Contempt (prior domestic incidents), two counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, two counts of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Failure to Obey Red Traffic Light and Unlicensed Operator.
He was arraigned on May 5.
