Buju Banton: Buju Banton Convicted on Cocaine Charges

bujuBuju Banton, the raggae star who just recently won a Grammy was convicted Tuesday of brokering a cocaine deal with an undercover drug informant.

The Florida federal jury found Banton guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.  Banton was charged back in December of 2009 after a DEA drug sting.

Prosecutors said Banton, 37,  was the middleman in a cocaine deal between drug dealers and the informant, the New York Daily News reports.

His album “Before the Dawn” won best raggae album at the Grammy’s last week, but it doesn’t look like Banton will be continuing that celebration for long.

“This is not about Buju Banton, the reggae singer. This is about Mark Myrie, the drug defendant,” Assistant U.S. Attorney James Preston said during his closing argument last Thursday, according to the Daily News.
