Chalk up win number 1 for T-Ball and Joe T. Zwanger-Pesiri (ZP) Radiology beat BK Sweeney’s 21-13. The bats were smoking all night for ZP beginning with a 6-run first inning. RBI hits from Vinny Foppiano, John DeFalco, Marc Fischer, Tommy Dittmeier and Bino Reverberi made it 6-3, ZP. The game seesawed until the 6th when ZP pounded across five runs that put the game out of reach.
For the night, John Hernandez had four hits and three RBI. Dittmeier and the hot-hitting DeFalco banged out three hits. Richie “don’t send me” Damico had two hits and four clutch RBI’s.
Fischer, Reverberi, Pete Mendelson (three RBI) and Jerry Mazza also joined the hitting parade with a pair of hits each. Ira Berger sparked the team with his aggressive base running and DeFalco provided a big lift in the first with a key unassisted double play. Winning pitcher Brian Tinney was tough all night. He had defensive help, especially from Foppiano in left center, who covers as much ground out there as anyone in the league.
Paradox Cafe welcomed their newest team members: Steve Fanelli, James Mignone and Tony Scime. Welcome back Bob Meyers as he takes up the coaching reins and retires his playing cleats. Good luck Bob.
This week, McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home played Paradox Cafe in the opener on the small field. The home runs started early as Steve Fanelli belted a three run shot over the right field fence in the first inning. Andy Cohen followed that up with an RBI single to give Paradox a 4-0 lead. M&T posted a few runs to get back into the game early, but Paradox kept up the offensive attack all night. Mitch Maghakian hit two home runs over the center field fence and Lenny Balestrieri smashed one over the fence too. Not to be outdone, Walter Hasemann drove a shot to deep left center for a two-run shot. The five home run night only got better as Bob Thompson went a perfect five for five along with Don Carlin’s three for five with two RBIs. Gary Innes, Tony Scime, Al Celeste and Jame Mignone chipped in as the whole team hit and either scored a run or knocked in an RBI. Add in a few key double plays along with a nice throw by Balestrieri to nail a man at the plate and Paradox kept M&T at bay for the evening. The final tally was a Paradox win, 28-13 over M&T.
“Grown men acting like boys” that was the key to Moby Drug’s success once again. Moby beat Barco Construction 13-8. Poking jokes at each other on the bench kept the mood just right for Anthony Canavaciol to lead the offense with six RBIs including two homers. He hit them as high as they were deep. But just to prove the old saying, “Defense Wins Games” the legendary Vinny Misuraca managed to run (if you can call it that) down two phenomenal drives deep into the night to save at least as many runs. Here’s to a speedy recovery from knee surgery for teammate John Caracciolo.

Barco continued their early season struggles as they fell to 0-2. For the second week they allowed their opponent to build a sizeable lead before mustering any offense, this time Moby jumped out to a 10-2 lead before Barco pushed across some runs to make it a ballgame. Barco’s Russ Graham opened up their scoring with a two-run single in the first but it took till the seventh before Terry “Called Looking” McPartland drove in two to bring Barco within striking distance at 10-5. Barco made it even closer with another three in the eighth and thought Mike Angarita’s long drive was going to tie the game but Moby’s Vinny Misuraca made a great over-the shoulder sprawling catch to end the inning. Bob Bergsten had the hot night going 3-3 with a long triple but the talk of the night was “Called Looking” taking not one but two straight strikes, apparently Terry had an “out of body” experience at that moment or he wanted Steve Jacobsen feel better from week one. The team would like to belatedly welcome rookie Mario DiChiara to the team, hopefully their early play won’t cause him any nightmares.
