July 4th Barbecue
The Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, will hold it’s annual July 4th Chicken Barbecue on the lawn behind the church. It starts at noon (following the parade) and is over at 2 p.m. Fixings include: chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, coleslaw, potato chips, cranberry sauce, etc, and all sorts of desserts. Pancake Breakfast for Local Veterans
Sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick) as a way to thank veterans for their service to our country and communities. The breakfast will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Seaford Knights of Columbus, 2183 Jackson Ave., Seaford. All veterans who live in Senator Fuschillo’s Senate District are invited to attend. Lazy Days of Summer Picnic
The Levittown Community Council’s annual Lazy Days of Summer Picnic will be held at the East Village Green, Jerusalem Ave., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free entertainment and many fun activities including pony rides, a petting zoo, relay races and crafts. Come walk the plank and pull out a prize from our pirate’s treasure chest or visit the butterfly tent. This is a fun family day for all, paid for by membership fees and local business donations. Members of LCC are invited to set up tables to exhibit their activities and promote their groups. Garage Sale
YES Community Counseling Center, 75 Grand Ave., Massapequa, will be conducting its Annual Garage Sale at the back of its offices (New York Ave. between Central Ave. and Hicksville Rd.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. YES will be collecting items, old and new (but saleable, please). If you have any items that you would like to donate to the agency (all contributions are tax deductible), call 799-3203. The proceeds from this event will be used to support our programs and services to youth and families. Rain date July 17.
VFW Annual Picnic
All are welcome to attend the VFW annual picnic from noon to 7 p.m. in Field #1 at Oyster Bay Park. The fee is $15 which includes hamburgers, hot dogs, clams, corn on the cob, ice cream, soda and beer.

Kiwanis Italian Cook Off
Come to the Kiwanis Italian Cook Off at Levittown Hall from 3 to 6 p.m. where Kiwanis members will be presenting their best Italian specialties and attendees will vote for their favorite dish. Tickets are $10. Pretty reasonable for some great Italian food.

Baseball Clinics
The 2011 Summer Youth Baseball Program will be led by Michael Caulfield, the first assistant coach at NYIT in Old Westbury; operator of the Butch Caulfield Hitting Academy in Bethpage; and hitting coordinator for the popular youth baseball programs at the NY Baseball Academy. The general baseball clinics, which cover all facets of the sport, are designed for youngsters ages 8 to 13, and will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. four days a week (Monday through Thursday) at Cantiague Park, W. John St., Hicksville (571-7056) during the following weeks: July 11 and July 25. The cost is $130 per session per player. In addition, the county is running a specialized pitching clinic at Wantagh Park, 1 King Rd., Wantagh (571-7460) from 6 to 8 p.m. on four separate dates: July 11, 18 and 25 and Aug. 1. The cost is $90 per player and is open to youngsters 8 to 16 years of age. More Help for Breast Cancer Patients
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program has expanded its services at Nassau University Medical Center in efforts to bring professional social work services to breast cancer patients in need. For over six years, the Adelphi bi-lingual social workers have been providing psychosocial support and concrete services to underserved minority women with breast cancer and their family members at the NUMC’s Breast Clinic. A bilingual social worker will be available in the Oncology Clinic at the hospital between the hours of 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Social work services at the Breast Clinic are offered on Tuesdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. This project is made possible by funding through the Greater NYC Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Port North Basketball
Port North is a 3-year-old independent basketball team based out of Port Washington that plays year round in the super league at Island Garden and various tournaments in the metropolitan area. While the team has enjoyed success winning championships in 7th and 8th grade divisions this past season the emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals, developing good practice habits and preparing players for middle and high school basketball. The team has a professional trainer with over 20 years experience. We are currently looking for experienced players for next season. Levittown Historical Society and Museum
The organization collects, preserves and educates history of Levittown. Holds seven yearly general meetings in the Community Room of the Levittown Library and maintains the museum located in the Levittown Memorial Education Center, Room 10, 150 Abbey Ln., Levittown. The museum contains history of Levittown, WWII memorabilia, artifacts from the Levitt houses, toys, furniture, clothing of the ‘40s and ‘50s, replicas of the Levitt kitchen and the Levitt ranch living room.
