Nick Carter will go on with his scheduled tour even after the death of his sister earlier this week.
Leslie Carter died on Tuesday in Upstate New York, according to reports. It was reported on Thursday that Leslie, 25, died of a drug overdose, according to police reports.
ABCNews.com reported that the drug, Olanzapine, used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disease, was found near her body. Two other drugs, Cyclobenzaprine, a muscle relaxant, and Alprazolam, used to treat anxiety, were also found.
A statement released on the singer’s website said he is “thankful” for all the well-wishes and prayers, and added that the tour will go on as promised. The statement also said “we ask that the press respect Nick’s privacy during his time of grief.”
“Performing is cathartic to me and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform,” said Carter, best known as a member of the Backstreet Boys.
Carter’s solo tour also includes a stop at The Paramount in Huntington on Feb. 7.
“Looking forward to hanging with my extended family – my fans,” Carter tweeted on Thursday.
He is also scheduled to make stops in Philadelphia, Boston, Allentown, Chicago and Columbus.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that Leslie had “a long history of mental illness,” a family member told authorities.
She leaves behind a husband and young daughter.
