Shed the Meds

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick), the Nassau County Police Department, and the Village of Massapequa Park are joining together for a Shed the Meds to help residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications. The program will be held between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Brady Park, 1000 Lake Shore Dr., Massapequa Park. Residents can drive up, drop off old or unused medications and drive away. Goodbye to Genealogy Clutter

Are you swamped by a sea of genealogical papers, charts, photos, bulging folders, and overflowing shoeboxes? Then come to the Irish Family History Forum at 11 a.m. at Bethpage Public Library, 47 Powell Ave., Bethpage, to hear Ronald E. Moore Jr., discuss how to keep your family tree organized. Whether you work with paper or online, this program will help you reduce your genealogy clutter. Earth Day

The Levittown Community Council will once again join forces with the town to clean up public areas. Team up with family, friends and neighbors to lend a hand to this effort. Residents of Levittown and Island Trees school districts are encouraged to come out to help as we welcome spring. A Gala Evening of Jewish Music

A program of musical inspiration: Chassidic, Israeli, Yiddish, Broadway, operatic and cantorial songs. Featuring Cantors Aron Heller and Ralph Nussbaum and the East Northport Jewish Center Choir. Staying Healthy

There will be an afternoon packed full with information on how to live healthier lives and, most importantly, stay healthy. This event is being held in the Parish Hall of the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Deana Levis, “The Healthy Coach,” will speak about weight loss solutions. From 2:30 to 3 p.m,. Sheryl Oleksak, a 500 RYT Yoga instructor, will hold an express Vinyasa Yoga class for all levels. Catherine Kinsley, 200 RYT, will teach breathing techniques to reduce stress and anxiety from 3 to 3:30 p.m. The last half-hour, 3:30 to 4 p.m., participants will get energy and balance in a Reiki Healing Circle led by Darlene Smith, Sheryl Oleksak and Catherine Kinsley. Adventure In Music

Public Meeting on Fracking

Come for a discussion about hydraulic fracturing and what can be done about it. Fracking threatens our air, water and food. Community leaders and concerned residents will come together to show elected officials that their leadership is needed in keeping fracking out of New York. Benefit for Troop 96

Troop 96 announced that Wendy’s on Wantagh Ave., Wantagh will share 15 percent of all sales between 5 and 8 p.m. with Troop 96. The donated proceeds will assist the troop in providing camping equipment for this busy outdoor season and for other scouting activities. Adopt-A-Park

As a sponsor of Wantagh Bay Yacht Club is having its Spring Cleanup at 10 a.m. Participants are club members as well as local community residents, organizations and Boy Scouts. March for Babies

A baby’s first steps are one of the most precious moments in life and the March of Dimes believes every baby deserves a healthy first step. Join March for Babies and make sure more babies get that chance. Walk together for stronger, healthier babies. March for Babies will be held in at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. It’s a family-friendly event where the community comes together to raise money to support research, services, education and advocacy in the fight against prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality. Stone Soup Open Mic

Hosted by the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, from 2 to 4 p.m., to benefit the Freeport Emergency Food Pantry. People of all ages and faiths are welcome to participate and attend. Choirs and other groups as well as soloists, instrumentals, poetry and dramatic readings are welcome. Participants should be prepared to perform something appropriate for all ages as there will be young children present. Since this is a food benefit, songs about food will be the sub-theme, but are not required. If you do not have an accompanist, bring sheet music. There is one mic stand, a couple of mics, a keyboard, an organ and an upright piano. Admission to this foodraising event is at least one nonperishable food item per person. In Good Taste Benefit Event

Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by attending In Good Taste, a restaurant tasting event at The Carltun in Eisenhower Park. Fine food, winning wines and delicious desserts will be provided by many of Long Island’s premier restaurants, wineries, and bakeries. A Cabaret After-Party will feature singers and a comedian. This year, the addition of a casino will round out the evening. Tickets are $90 per person for the main event and $125 which includes the fantastic After Party. Soldiers Angels sends care packs to deployed troops all through the year. Cards and letters for our deployed troops, local veterans and for our wounded heroes are also needed. Soldiers Angels also accepts donations for our local veteran missions in the community. •Korean War Veterans of NC Chapter #1 regular monthly meeting at 8 p.m. on the third Monday of every month (except July and August) at American Legion Post #1711, 3123 N. KWVA is seeking all who served in the US Armed Forces and UN Command during the Korean War between Sept. 3, 1945 to Jan 31, 1955 or Feb. 1, 1955 to the present. You did not have to have served in Korea to be a member.

•Levittown Historical Society. If you are interested in helping collect memorabilia, photographs, appliances and furnishings from the early days of Levittown, come down for an interesting evening. •Levittown Community Council. •Pet Loss Support Group for people who feel very sad about the loss or serious illness of their cat or dog. Levittown’s Brass and Percussion

A nonprofit organization that will teach kids, ages 8 to 88, to play an instrument and have fun parading, performing, competing and many social events. Free of charge. Beginners or experienced musicians welcome. Free transportation and instruments if needed. Cosmetology Program

Levittown Career and Technical Center at Abbey Ln. is offering the public salon services performed by students on Fridays from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pricing for a haircut, shampoo and style, and manicure is $3. Child and Adult Food Program

All children in attendance will be offered the same meals at no separate charge, with no physical segregation of, or other discriminating against, any child because of race, color, age, national origin, sex or handicap. •Adult Education led by Rabbi Alan Lavin. Course #1 Torah Reading Skills. Learn and sharpen your basic skills to read Torah. Mondays at 7 p.m. Course #2 Basic Talmud. Learn the legends, laws and background of the Wisdom of the Rabbis. 8:10 p.m.

•Learning the Torah and Haftorah Trops on Mondays at 7 p.m. Instructor Rabbi Alan Lavin. This is a practical course for those who can read Hebrew to learn how to participate more easily at services and lead prayers. The course is open to all men and women.

•Beginners Hebrew course, sponsored by Hadassah, will be held at on Mondays at 7 p.m. Instructor Murray Zwerling. For those who would like to learn or improve their basic Hebrew reading.

•Introduction to Jewish Prayer on Mondays at 8:15 p.m. Text: To Pray as a Jew by Rabbi Haim Donnin. Instructor Rabbi Alan Lavin. The course is designed for those who would like to learn the history, meaning and structure of the siddur.

•Sisterhood Book Club – If you have an interest in reading, the Sisterhood Book Club is for you. Join other women to discuss interesting books. Call the synagogue office for more information about the Book Club and Sisterhood events.

Levittown Historical Society and Museum

The organization collects, preserves and educates history of Levittown. Holds seven yearly general meetings in the Community Room of the Levittown Library and maintains the museum located in the Levittown Memorial Education Center, Room 10, 150 Abbey Ln., Levittown. The museum contains history of Levittown, WWII memorabilia, artifacts from the Levitt houses, toys, furniture, clothing of the ‘40s and ‘50s, replicas of the Levitt kitchen and the Levitt ranch living room.
