MacArthur Fall 2013 Soccer Preview

Girls:

The Lady Generals welcome new head Coach Michelle Towers who was the assistant varsity coach last year and the JV coach for four years prior to that. The team will roster 26 girls which includes 10 seniors, 6 juniors, 7 sophomores and 3 freshmen.

 

Players to watch include Senior Kristyn Alonzo who is currently playing for the Philippines Women’s National Team. Impact returning varsity player Courtney Mutino is out for the season with a torn ACL. 

 

The team will rely on the strength of Hofstra committed Katie and Kelly Gerdes as well as Dowling bound Kelly McQuail.

 

The JV team welcomes new head coach Shannon Rhatigan, who played at Sacred Heart. The roster includes 18 girls.

 

Boys:

As the new school year so does the exciting season of fall sports. Coach Atkins returns for his second year having earned the title of Conference A AII Champions in 2012. Last year the Generals were 2nd in Nassau County in shutouts and the #3 seed in playoffs which was the highest seed in over a decade.

 

This year the roster consists of 27 varsity players, which includes 3 sophomores, 14 juniors and 10 seniors. 

 

The team also welcomes the addition Assistant Coach John Nessler, who is sure to bring his competitive spirit and leadership to the squad. 

 

Watch for impact players James Barrett, Greg Baumstein (All County 2012), Joe Giammarusco, Kevin Mayer (All Conference), Frank Micili (All County Honorable Mention), Ben Zilka and Anthony Rocchio. 

 

The JV team will be coached by Rob Paletta; the team had just one loss last year and consists of an energetic and determined group.
