Massapequa Park’s Allison Philbin, a senior majoring in design at Adelphi University, has something terrific to add to her portfolio—her design will appear on the cover of an art book published by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline for its Creative Cups event.
Creative Cups is a fundraising event for the breast cancer program where 178 people have taken ordinary bras and turned them into works of art. The bras will be auctioned on March 19, in the evening at Adelphi University. A book with the photos of all the Creative Cups—and Philbin’s design on the cover—will also be available and sold at the event.
Philbin competed against 11 other students in her design class. She chose to feature one particular Creative Cup, “The Glittering Garden of Hope (part 2)” that was made in honor of NBC News personality Pat Battle who is the emcee of the event. Philbin’s professor Dale Flashner says she selected Philbin’s design for its elegance and sophistication.
“The taupe background gave Allison’s design a gracefulness and at the same time made it fresh. The cover’s overall aesthetic epitomizes ‘less is definitely more,’” said Flashner.
Additionally Philbin (with classmates Meghan Cerrone and Julianna Claase) made a Creative Cup that will be auctioned at the event. They call it “The Carrie,” to commemorate the spunky women from the TV series Sex and the City.
To date, chief sponsors are Horizon Air Freight, Leviton Foundation, Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, NYBRA.com, Ellen and Joan Leondis, Digital Graphic Imagery Corp., First Glass Wine Tours of Long Island and Lackmann Culinary Services.
