The Lanyard Ladies, a birthday party business, opened in Mineola recently before receiving official Mineola Village Board approval. The party place holds sweet sixteens as well as other events.
“We teach kids how to make friendship bracelets and lanyards,” owner Heidi Cohen said.
Cohen, of Oceanside, came up with the idea while working in a summer camp. She taught children how to make the very items making their mark in Mineola today.
The business started in East Rockaway om the back of a gym. Cohen plans to franchise, with a second proposed location in Huntington.
“We traveled as a business but as we grew, we decided to open a location,” she said. “Parents were asking for a better location and we want to start franchising.
The location holds two to three parties on weekends for kids, with a 25-30 party per month average. Parking was an issue for village board members.
“We don’t want to hurt business,” Mayor Scott Strauss said. “We want to look out for homes [on White Road]. We wish [Landyard Ladies] the best of success.”
Landyard Ladies offers facepainting, glitter tattoos, cotton candy and popcorn to its attendees.
“We do classes after school too,” Cohen said. “We have options for everyone.”
The Lanyard Ladies is at 464 Jericho Tpke. in Mineola. The phone number is 516-578-2248.
