KipPoetAward_091615Anis, a resident of Massapequa, is the author of Without a Script: A Caregiver’s Journey, a collection of stories, poems, letters and vignettes that capture the roller coaster of emotions as the author and her mom are cast in new roles and set out on a journey without a script, stage directions or understudies in the wings.

In addition to Without a Script: A Caregiver’s Journey, her publications include a one-act play, Things Can Always Be Worse! and three educational books she co-authored: Together We Can Improvise (Volume 1 and Volume 2), and Have You Ever…Bringing Literature to Life Through Creative Dramatics. Kipnis’ story “I Did Not Understand” appears in the December 2014 edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Power of Forgiveness.

Kipnis’ educational books are the outgrowth of her experiences as an artist-in-residence and instructor of workshops that enable teachers to integrate the arts into curriculum. Throughout her career, she has directed award-winning high school productions and developed and implemented intergenerational projects and school partnerships that provide access to the arts for students of diverse abilities. Kipnis often reads her stories and poems at bookstores and libraries, and conducts workshops on improvisation and writing, as well as presentations based on her books.
