Anton Editor Wins Award

JS Award_AnytimeJoe Scotchie, longtime editor of The Roslyn News, has been named a winner of the Willie Parker Peace History book award for his book, A Gallery of Ashevilleans: The History Of A People Of A Mountain Town. The award is given annually by the North Carolina Society of Historians.

The judges’ collective comment for the book states, “This is an extraordinary book about a mountain town with an interesting history, beautiful architecture and colorful inhabitants. It deals with a plethora of subject matter, including concise stories regarding Asheville’s renowned citizens past and present, people who made significant contributions to the arts, [including] writers and musicians, well-known sportsmen, politicians, military data, information about the physical town and the changes made over time….It is reader-friendly and breathes life into Asheville as it was and brings Asheville up to a time familiar to most citizens.”

Scotchie is the author and/or editor of seven books, including biographies on Thomas Wolfe and Richard M. Weaver. He has been editor of The Roslyn News for the past 21 years, and during that time, has also edited The Glen Cove Record Pilot, The Massapequa Observer and currently The New Hyde Park Illustrated News.
