The Senior Center Is Open

yogaGarden City Recreation and Parks is pleased to announce that the newly renovated senior center on Golf Club Lane is open and is filled with programs for any senior resident aged 60 or older. From exercise to social events, from games to speakers, the department has many programs to offer. Stop by the Senior Center for a calendar of events.

Special Events For May

Tuesday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m.—Live Music
Bob Kulik from the 1960s group The Happenings will come and serenade attendees with songs that have made this group a hit for the past 30 years. So put your dancing shoes on or just grab a seat and enjoy this afternoon of tunes.

Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m.—Introduction To The Internet
In this hands-on lecture and demo class you will learn how to send, receive, forward and reply to email. After you have mastered the basics, you will learn how to attach files and download. You should be comfortable using your computer to take this class. Space is limited and reservations are necessary by registering in the Senior Center office.

Exercise For Seniors

Garden City Recreation and Parks is offering the following exercise classes for seniors at the Senior Center on Golf Club Lane. For the next few months, the classes will be free in order to for you to try each class, after which they will be offered at a nominal charge. Classes are open to all seniors ages 60 and older who are residents of the Incorporated Village of Garden City. Classes might be canceled due to a special event so be sure to check the bulletin board at the Senior Center for updates.

Monday
Exercise with Felicia at 10 a.m.
Tai Chi with Connie at 1 p.m.
Meditation with Connie at 2 p.m.

Tuesday
Yoga for all levels with Allie 10:30 a.m.
Chair dancing with Felicia 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday
Exercise with Felicia at 9:45 a.m.
Chair yoga with Allie at noon
Yoga for fitness with Allie at 1 p.m.

Thursday
Exercise with Joy at 9 a.m. (paid class, prior registration is needed)
Chair yoga with Connie at 11 a.m.
Zumba Gold Fitness with Felicia at 2:15 p.m. (paid class, prior registration is needed)

Friday
Exercise with Felicia at 9:45 a.m.
Resistance bands/Felicia 10:45 a.m.
Meditation with Connie at noon
Tai Chi with Connie at 1 p.m.

The recreation and parks department, with the advisement of the senior advisory committee, is sponsoring the following trips for seniors who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City during the upcoming months.

Tom Jones Tribute Show At Resorts, Atlantic City
On Tuesday, July 12, hop a ride to Atlantic City with Rendezvous Travel to see Lou Nelson perform as Tom Jones in this wonderful tribute. Enjoy this dynamic spectacle that has thrilled audiences worldwide. You will have time to gamble or walk the boardwalk before the show. Lunch is on your own. You will receive $25 in slot play when the group arrives at Resorts. The cost of this trip is $50, checks only, made payable to Rendezvous Travel.

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, you’ll be able to explore your heritage on this trip to Ellis Island. Attendees will travel by coach bus into the city where they will board a ferry to the Island. You will have time to see the great exhibits at the museum on Ellis. After the museum visit, the tour will then travel to Little Italy, where the group will have lunch at La Nonna. The cost of this trip is $80, checks only made payable to Rendezvous Travel.

Hitting The Road To AC

On Tuesday, July 12, the Garden City Department of Recreation and Parks will visit Atlantic City to see a Tom Jones tribute show at Resorts. Rendezvous Travel is arranging this ride to Atlantic City to see Lou Nelson perform. Enjoy this dynamic spectacle that has thrilled audiences worldwide. While you wait to see the show, you will have time to gamble or walk the boardwalk and just enjoy a beautiful July day on the beach. Lunch is on your own. The cost of this trip is only $50 and you will received $25 in slot play when we arrive at Resorts.
