After much consideration and debate, the Manorhaven Action Committee (MAC) had reached a decision to endorse our former Mayor Gary Pagano, as well as Barbara Ruemenapp and Ken Kraft for Trustees, because they agree with our vision for the future of Manorhaven.
Ten months after a handful of residents, frustrated with governmental gridlock, infighting and fiscal sleight of hand, gathered to form a proactive civic discussion group, we have steadily grown and now reach close to 400 residents.
We have tackled many issues including code enforcement, parking, and snow removal. We have issued lost child alerts and dangerous dog warnings. We disseminated storm surge maps. We submitted comprehensive and well-thought lists of suggestions to the Trustees, testified in public, and formed focus groups.
But despite lofty promises, nothing has changed in the way our local government works. Every one of the ideas MAC submitted was subsequently buried, ignored and delayed. No wonder MAC felt it was finally necessary to select new common sense candidates who would listen to the growing voice of the people.
MAC based its endorsement on these candidates’ comprehensive understanding of vital community issues, their honesty, their past service to the residents and their steadfast commitment to halt over-building.
MAC believes such basic concepts as public access to the waterfront and protecting the village from over-development, providing environmental stewardship of our wetlands and real-world solutions for our infrastructure issues (like road maintenance, lack of street parking, code enforcement and speedy snow removal) are priorities.
As practical and proactive problem solvers, these community activists and long-time residents of the Village have demonstrated their energy, experience and proven ability to guard and enhance the quality of life in our beautiful waterfront community.
Their demonstrable lack of affiliation with any special interests or big business is of extreme importance to the residents of Manorhaven. We endorse these ethical, experienced and public-minded individuals, who we believe will truly bring transparency into Village Hall.
