A Fine Farewell To Principal Geczik

Shelter Rock SCA organized a special retirement party for their favorite school principal, Robert Geczik, on June 15 to honor and celebrate his 19 years of dedication to the students of Shelter Rock Elementary. Geczik originally came to the school as the assistant principal in 1999 and was promoted to principal. Everyone in the building was given stickers with Geczik’s picture with the inscription of “Because I knew you…I have been changed for the better.”

Students past and present, teachers, colleagues, friends, family and many retirees came to pay homage and enjoy pizza, Ralph’s Ices, a beautiful cake donated by Buttercooky Bakery, snacks, cookies, watermelon slices, drinks (with ice donated by King Kullen) and a DJ as well as a photobooth to capture memories with Geczik.

A photo mural documented Geczik’s impact “through the years,” capturing his love and devotion to Shelter Rock. The special performance by the band and orchestra was followed by a special song sung by Shelter Rock students. The lyrics said it all, “Mr. Geczik…you are our brightest light…you made our dreams come true…you are our orange and blue…”

Shelter Rock Student Council presented the principal with a book of heartfelt letters and memories from every single student at Shelter Rock. A beautiful handmade wooden tray was inscribed on the front with “So much of me is made from what I learned from you…you are with me like a handprint on my heart.”

The event concluded with more than 600 participants saying farewell and thank you to the Shelter Rock principal who touched so many lives.
