Farmingdale’s Main Street got its cheesiest addition to the downtown area when Chiddy’s CheeseSteaks opened in November. Last Friday, Jan. 18, owners Mike Chidester, Evan Deitch and Daron Benbenisti held their official grand opening with the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, local officials and members of the community.
Starting as a food truck in 2014, Chiddy’s specializes in, you guessed it, cheesesteaks. Keeping true to their roots, the Farmingdale space is decked out to resemble that of a food truck, complete with rearview mirrors, an awning, tires, stainless steel wall paneling and a floor mimicking the look of asphalt. Ensuring their authenticity, Chiddy’s uses rolls, steak and Cheez Whiz sourced from only Philly itself.
On hand to give Chiddy’s its official welcome to the community were Village of Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand, the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Thomas Hand, New York State Assemblymen Michael Montesano and Michael LiPetri, representatives for New York State Senators Kevin Thomas and John Brooks, and Nassau County Legislators Rose Walker and James Kennedy.
Each official present offered kind words to the business owners and presented them with a citation commending them on their business accomplishments.
“You guys are great, I know you’re going to do well,” said Ekstrand.
After the presenting of citations and the ribbon cutting, the crowd headed inside to enjoy samples of Chiddy’s famous cheesesteaks, empanadas and French fries.
Chiddy’s is located at 191 Main St.
