Nassau County patrol officers were called to an abandoned house on Warren Street in Uniondale this morning where they found a dog in distress. The pup had been left outside in the snow and ice, tied to a porch. Terrified, she hid from police under a bush.
The officers were able to gain the trust of the dog and approach her safely with a makeshift leash they made from rope laying nearby. They wrapped the dog in a blanket and brought her to their warm vehicle and gave her warm water.
The dog appeared to be malnourished, so the officers brought her to McDonalds for a meal of hamburger patties. They report that the dog started to appear happier and wag her tail.
Next, the officers transported the dog to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter where she was subsequently dubbed “Warren.”
Anyone interested in adopting Warren should contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh, at 516-785-5220.
