The Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University hosted their 25th Sakura Matsuri: Cherry Blossom Festival, co-produced by Wang Cultural Programs, the Japan Center at Stony Brook, and Ryu Shu Kan Japanese Arts Center.

Surrounded by 40 blooming cherry blossom trees, the milestone event showcased Japanese culture through vibrant performances, workshops, and exhibits.

The annual Cherry Blossom Festival featured a Koto ensemble, Ichifujikai traditional dance, Okinawan dance, and 10tecomai’s lively Yosakoi dance. Martial arts displays included Ryu Shu Kan Karate with Sanshin accompaniment, AEUSKF Kendo, Kogaku Ryu Iaido, and Ken Zen Naginata Club. Ryu Shu Kan Taiko’s powerful drumming closed the event.

Tea ceremonies offered an intimate ritual experience, while Shakuhachi flute performances captivated attendees. A cosplay show by CosplayNYC Magazine added manga-inspired flair.

Workshops included ikebana, origami, bonsai, manga drawing, calligraphy, kimono dress-ups, and a Go tournament. Authentic Japanese lunches from Jasmine restaurant enhanced the cultural immersion.

The 25th Sakura Matsuri: Cherry Blossom Festival embodied the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms, leaving lasting memories.
