“It was beautiful. It was a great turnout from residents and organizations,” Massapequa Park Mayor Daniel Pearl said about Massapequa’s parade. “It was an honor to march today.”
The Massapequa parade started on Front Street and was followed by a tribute to military members at Klestinec Park.
The annual Memorial Day parade in Farmingdale took over Main St. and featured a 45-minute ceremony on the Village Green.
“I was very proud of the community of Farmingdale,” Mayor Ralph Ekstrand said. “We deeply respect the veterans’ sacrifices that keep us free and safe in this country.”
In Bethpage, the parade began marching at 10:30 a.m. from John F. Kennedy Middle School, with a ceremony at the North LIRR parking lot. The Bethpage Memorial Day Parade Committee also asked residents to leave flowers at the memorials at Bethpage Community Park in memory of local residents who gave their lives for freedom. The parade also showcased a collection of classic cars.
Levittown’s parade kicked off at Island Trees Middle School and concluded at Veterans Memorial Park with a ceremony.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage parade remembered those who gave all on Memorial Day. Community members marched down Old Country Road, and a ceremony was held at the community park on Washington Ave., where residents, young and old, gathered to honor all the lives lost in pursuit of freedom.
In Wantagh, parade marchers began on Beltagh Ave. and Wantagh Ave. to a ceremony held at the American Legion Post.
