Nassau County school districts dominated the top 10 in the Niche.com website’s recent state rankings, released Monday, Sept. 29, and even fared well nationally, led by the Syosset Central School District, which was ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the country
Roslyn ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 3 in the country, Jericho ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 10 in the country, Great Neck ranked No. 6 in the state, Manhasset ranked No. 7 in the state, and East Williston, which ranked first in the state last year, ranked No. 8 in the state.
“This recognition is the culmination of years of dedication—by our kids, our teachers, our leaders, and the behind-the-scenes staff who keep us moving forward,” said Syosset Superintendent Thomas Rogers.
Syosset rose in the statewide and nationwide ranks this year. Last year, the district ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 5 in the country. Rankings are determined by test scores, data analytics, and reviews from students, parents, and alumni.
Niche rates each district in six categories: academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college prep, and administration. Syosset earned an A+ in all categories except diversity, in which the district earned a B.
The Syosset school district has approximately 7,000 students in 10 buildings. At a recent board of education meeting, the school announced that it offers over 360 course options, 200 club activities, and more than 120 athletic teams at the secondary grade levels.
Other districts also expressed pride in their rankings.
“I take great pride in the recent recognition of the Jericho community in the Niche rankings. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our students, faculty, staff, and families. Each day, we remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence, and we will continue striving toward our shared goals with determination and purpose,” said Jericho Superintendent Robert Kravitz.
“We are proud that our schools are consistently recognized by Niche among the best school districts in the state and the nation. In addition to our district’s overall ranking as 6th in New York and 20th in the nation, each of our K-12 schools that are ranked by Niche received an A+ rating. This is a testament to our outstanding educators, hardworking students and families, supportive Board of Education, and the involvement of our entire community in supporting exceptional academic programs,” said Great Neck Superintendent Kenneth R. Bossert.
East Williston and Manhasset declined to comment. Attempts to reach Roslyn were unavailing.
Niche.com allows students, parents, and alumni to share their thoughts about their district.
“Absolutely loved it. There’s a place for every single student,” commented one Syosset High School senior on Niche.
“Syosset has prepared me for adult life through various necessary courses and the robust business department,” commented another Syosset student.
Other students expressed that the school fosters a competitive environment.
Rogers said Syosset’s performance in the rankings reflects the entire community’s commitment to education.
“It is also the product of our parents, our board, and a community that has truly made education a priority in Syosset,” he said.
