At the corner of South Street and Orchard in Oyster Bay sits a home and design destination that has become a beloved fixture since opening in 2013. Sanctuary Home & Patio is known for its elevated outdoor living collections, curated décor and warm, personal service. Behind this standout business is the exceptional aunt and niece team of Dottie and Carrie Leopold, whose combined forty years of industry expertise have shaped Sanctuary into one of the most trusted women and family-owned enterprises on Long Island.
Luxury Outdoor Living, Thoughtfully Curated
Sanctuary Home & Patio carries everything needed to transform an outdoor space into a welcoming retreat. The showroom features an extensive range of dining sets, sofas, sectionals, loveseats, club chairs, chaises and accent tables. Each piece is selected with intention and displayed to help clients envision complete settings.
The Oyster Bay showroom highlights best sellers and new collections from industry leaders including Brown Jordan, Gloster, Barlow Tyrie and TUUCI. “We concentrate on the better goods in the market,” Simons explains. “Our floor looks very different from what you see at most merchants. We curate thoughtfully so clients can see a full picture.”
Outdoor accessories complete the experience with Elaine Smith pillows, solar lighting, lanterns, planters, melamine dinnerware, cutting boards, baskets and trays. Everything needed to entertain beautifully, indoors or out, is found here.
At the heart of the business is the relationship Dottie and Carrie form with every client. Their philosophy is to listen first, understand each individual style and deliver exactly what a homeowner envisions, whether it is a full backyard transformation or simply the perfect finishing touch. This personalized approach, combined with deep product knowledge and long relationships with trusted manufacturers, has earned Sanctuary a loyal following that spans Long Island, Connecticut and beyond.

The Team That Feels Like Family
A major reason Sanctuary feels so inviting is the team behind it. For more than twenty three years, lead buyer and floor designer Sarah Sadlo has been an essential part of Sanctuary’s evolution. Her talent for mixing pieces from different manufacturers allows clients to see how varied collections can work together seamlessly.
“Clients can walk in and see a dining table, a seating area and chaises that may come from three different manufacturers but all coordinate beautifully,” Sadlo explains. Her attention to detail and long standing bond with Dottie and Carrie help give the showroom its signature warmth.
Joining her is Amy Rosano, who brings additional depth and care to the extended Sanctuary family. Together, the team offers complimentary design consultations seven days a week, along with on site visits to bring clients’ visions to life.

A Destination for Gifts and Seasonal Style
Beyond outdoor living, Sanctuary offers a curated selection of hostess gifts and tabletop merchandise, including the popular Voluspa candles.
“People can walk in the door and leave with a gift for almost any occasion,” Sadlo notes. Whether you’re arriving with a charming hostess gift or styling your home for a holiday soirée, Sanctuary offers seasonal finds that enchant. Summer brings breezy coverups, hats and beach totes, while winter ushers in luxe accessories, slippers, scarves and cozy apparel. Always fresh, always inspiring, perfect to give or to enjoy.
A Holiday Experience Like No Other
Each winter, Sanctuary becomes a magical holiday wonderland that attracts visitors from across the region. The Christmas shop spans three full rooms filled with ornaments, wreaths, candles, décor and themed departments for women, men, babies, pets and tabletop. A charming gingerbread house overflows with gingerbread themed treasures.
The showroom features eight to ten elaborately decorated Christmas trees, redesigned each year and built directly on the sales floor so customers can shop each theme. Styles range from Adirondack Mountains and Black Bears to Grinch, Candy Land and White Christmas. The children’s section, filled with toys, books, snow globes and stocking stuffers, delights families year after year.

A Tradition of Service and Trust
Walking into Sanctuary is stepping into a place where design meets warmth and where shopping becomes an experience. The store serves clients across Long Island from end to end, as well as southern Connecticut, northern New Jersey, Westchester and New York City. Many clients with multiple homes rely on Sanctuary to furnish properties from Long Island to Florida and California, often purchasing locally and arranging drop shipping to another state.
Referrals are a major part of the business. “Once we sell somebody, we tend to sell their neighbors and their kids,” Simons says. “We stay with families from house to house because they feel comfortable here and value our forty years of experience.”
Sanctuary also provides end of season cushion pickup and cleaning, as well as access to trusted partners for repairs.
For more than four decades, Dottie and Carrie have created far more than a showroom. They have built a true sanctuary where clients become friends and where every detail reflects a passion for helping people make their homes extraordinary.
