Herricks students from across the district came together on Feb. 14 to commemorate “P.S. I Love You Day.”
This nationally recognized event encourages hope and support for those affected by mental illness, creating a community where everyone feels welcome, valued and loved. This year’s theme, “Be the Light,” reminded students that anyone can be a beacon of kindness and hope.
At Herricks High School, students wore purple and wrote uplifting messages on hearts displayed throughout the school. A table near the cafeteria, staffed by students, offered mental health resources and raised funds for suicide prevention causes. Herricks Middle School students participated in a “connect the dots” activity to emphasize that no one is ever alone.
They also created displays with messages of affirmation, love, and acceptance in multiple languages spoken by students and families. At each Herricks elementary school, students collaborated with school social workers to create colorful hallway murals filled with positive messages and cheerful illustrations, brightening the day.
As part of a special community effort, the Human Relations Club at Searingtown Elementary School collected gently used books to donate to Book Fairies, spreading comfort, connection and hope to those in need.
Through their creativity, kindness and community spirit, Herricks students truly showed how small acts of hope and love can light up the lives of others.
