Cat named Super Cheeks among pets up for adoption on Long Island

Super Cheeks
Super Cheeks

Every superhero has a story, and these animals are no different. From overcoming challenges to showing endless love, they’re ready to meet the heroes who will change their lives furever.

Available for adoption at the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Nope…it’s the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pet of the Week, Super Cheeks! Super Cheeks is a lovable tabby Domestic Short Hair, estimated to be about two years old, with the most irresistible cheeks and an even bigger personality to match. This cheek-tastic boy came to the shelter through our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program after being found as a friendly neighborhood stray—still wearing a flea collar, a sign he once had a home.

Despite his time outdoors, Super Cheeks has never lost his affectionate spirit. He absolutely adores people and is always ready to soak up attention from anyone willing to give it. While he can occasionally become a bit overstimulated during play or petting, his sweet and social nature shines through, making him a truly special companion.

Super Cheeks would do well in a home with children and would thrive in a calm environment where he can receive plenty of love and attention. He prefers to be the only cat in the home and may do best with a calm canine companion. Super Cheeks is FIV positive, which means he will need to remain an indoor-only cat to stay safe and healthy. With proper care, cats with FIV can live long, happy lives—and Super Cheeks is ready to spend their time surrounded by love.

If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate companion with a whole lot of charm, Super Cheeks is ready to steal your heart! Please fill out an application to schedule a time to properly interact with him in a domestic setting.

Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America

Hudson 1
Hudson

Hudson, a two-year-old Mountain Dog mix has been through his share of ups and downs. He has been adopted twice and returned twice, not due to any shortcomings of his own, but because he still hasn’t met the people meant for him. Even after everything, he remains soft-hearted, hopeful, and ready for someone to give him a real chance. Hudson receives specialized enrichment and training in our adoption center, like all of the dogs in our care. His days are filled with confidence-building sessions, unique training experiences, and Zoomiez Dog Run treadmill workouts that help him feel more relaxed, focused, and brave. With each new experience, he learns a little more about trust and safety. Hudson can be shy at first and needs a little time, but once he feels comfortable, he gives you his whole heart. He knows his basic commands, plays beautifully with other dogs, and absolutely loves treats, ear scratches, and peaceful strolls by your side. He would thrive with a patient adopter who helps him feel safe and calm, and who will be by his side every step of the way as he continues to build his confidence. When Hudson finally finds his home, thanks to a generous donor, he’ll be supported every step of the way, with a generous donor covering the cost of continued in-home training and enrichment to ensure a smooth transition.

Spencer
Spencer

Spencer has been in Animal League America’s care for far too long, and his story is a quiet, tender one. Before he arrived, the world was not always kind to him. Because of that, Spencer learned to be careful, to move slowly, and to protect his heart. He is the dog who watches, waits, and hopes the right person will truly see him. Spencer is a gentle, mellow 5-year-old Shepherd mix searching for peace. He dreams of a calm, adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand that trust takes time and patience. With consistency and kindness, Spencer shows his affection in subtle, meaningful ways. Soft glances, choosing to sit nearby, quiet moments of connection. He is loving, but also independent, and would thrive as the one-and-only pet in his home. Because he can be skittish, Spencer needs a quieter environment away from city life. A fenced yard where he can feel safe and secure would mean the world to him. No chaos. No pressure. Just stability and understanding.

Roxy

Roxy was just a puppy when she first came to Animal League America; wide-eyed, full of love, and ready for a family of her own. It didn’t take long for someone to fall for her, and she was quickly adopted. For over a year, she believed she had found her happily ever after. But when life at home changed, sweet Roxy was returned to us. Now a year old, Roxy, a gorgeous shepherd mix, is back at the shelter trying to understand why everything she knew disappeared. The kennel has been hard on her – she’s feeling stressed and has even begun losing weight but beneath it all is the same loving girl who just wants to be close to her people. Roxy absolutely lives for affection, leaning into every pet and soaking up love from the humans she trusts. She’s playful, sweet, and still so young, with so much life and love ahead of her. Roxy would thrive in a home that can offer structure, guidance, and patience to help her blossom into the amazing companion we know she can be. She may even enjoy having a friendly canine sibling (a meet and greet will ensure the perfect match!), and she’s done well with cats, too.

Maggie
Maggie

Stop what you’re doing and meet Maggie! This newly rescued German Shepherd mix made her way here all the way from Texas, and she is just a little over one year old with 64 pounds of pure beauty. And those ears… one of them flips inside out like it has a personality of its own. It’s impossibly cute and somehow makes her even more perfect! Maggie already knows some of her basic cues and is eager to learn more. She’s smart, active, and loves being outside, whether she’s stretching her legs on a walk or soaking up the fresh air. She can pull a little on leash, but with a bit of guidance and consistency, she’ll absolutely shine. She grew up around other dogs in foster care, but since arriving here, Maggie has made one thing clear – she’d much rather be the queen of her castle. As your one and only, she’ll happily soak up all the love, attention, and adventure you have to give.

Svetlana
Svetlana

Svetlana’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. Rescued from the outdoors in the height of summer and then bravely fighting through a serious illness, her first year was full of challenges. Today, she’s come out the other side a true survivor—stronger, safer, and ready for a gentler chapter. She’s looking for a calm, experienced home with older kids who understand that trust grows with patience. Svetlana absolutely loves other cats, and having a feline friend to show her the ropes would help her feel right at home. Watching her confidence bloom alongside another kitty is truly special. And if you want to see her playful side? A little catnip does the trick—suddenly her inner kitten takes center stage!

Tibero
Tibero

Four-year-old Tiberio’s soulful eyes tell the story of a life that hasn’t always been easy. Rescued for TNR and once expected to return outdoors, everything changed when it became clear he was far too sweet for street life. This big‑headed, big‑hearted boy is ready for the quiet comfort of a safe indoor home, and his love of treats makes his trust easy to earn. For now, he relaxes in cozy corners, watching his braver friends from afar. Whether he joins the fun soon or heads straight to his very first true home, Tiberio’s heart is open—and we’re rooting for his happily ever after.

Arik
Arik

Three-year-old Arik has spent his life at the Happy Cat Sanctuary, yet he greets new experiences with a quiet, impish curiosity. He loves curling up in cozy spots—especially with a feline friend nearby to boost his confidence. Arik has a soft spot for treats and is pleasantly surprised by how much he enjoys brushings and gentle ear rubs. He’s FIV+, a reminder of his past that doesn’t affect his happy, healthy present. Ready for a home with encouraging older children, Arik promises plenty of shared firsts—and to fill every corner of your heart.
