On Aug. 6, Lance Cpl. James D. Argentine, 22, of Farmingdale was among three other Marines killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. In the weeks following this tragedy, Farmingdale became closer in respect to James in how he died protecting our freedom.
This year, the Farmingdale Fire Department will host the Annual Columbus Day Weekend Fair through Oct. 12. Each year we have a fundraising bin in honor of someone. Last year it was a Bethpage Volunteer Firefighter who was diagnosed with cancer. This year we will be raising money in memory of Lance Cpl. James D. Argentine. His family will then decide where to donate the money. We are asking all Farmingdale residents to come to the rear of the Farmingdale Fire Department at the refreshment tent and show your support.
