Jodie Schoppmann Three-Peats to Lead Way in 10K Run for Aspire

The irrepressible Jodie Schoppmann of Levittown was a “three-peat” winner in the Women’s Division of the 34th annual Nationwide 10K Run for Aspire through the streets of Plainview and Old Bethpage on Sunday, April 3. She has a 36:08 finish that was 25 seconds faster than her winning time in 2010 and 56 seconds faster than her 2009 winning time. It’s been quite a year so far for Schoppmann, who won the Caumsett 50 Kilometer National Championship on March 6 and scored a strong second in the Kings Park 15K on March 19.
In addition, Chris Mammone of the Bellmore Striders scored still another convincing victory in the annual 10K. His 32:15 finish brought him home as a repeat winner 13 seconds in front of runner-up Aaron Robertson of Upstate Altamont.  
Erica Hylton, also of Levittown scored second in the women’s 20-24 age group in a time of 42:06, and Michele Henschel came in at 40:15.
Una Broderick of Wantagh scored as the top Female Master. Top Master was John Kane of Levittown, scoring in 11th place overall in 36:18.
The even bigger story of the day was once again the amputees, with many amputee athletes completing either the full 10K or the special 5K that started on the halfway point on Round Swamp Road. The total of 755 finishers marked a big jump from only 582 in 2010.
