Belief for Relief Fundraiser
Come to the WhoVille Bar and Grill, 339 Broadway, Bethpage, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. for a fundraiser for the charity, Belief For Relief. The mission is to provide monetary assistance to families in financial distress because of job loss, illness or some other hardship. Admittance is $20, along with that comes a door raffle, which is a flat screen TV and a full buffet. There will also be an auction that you can participate in which has many nice prizes, included in them are tickets to Governors Comedy Club, nice restaurants, gym membership and many more things. Entertainment includes, The Electric Dudes (Classic Rock), Patty Moronne and Trouble No More Band (Southern Rock).
Free Irish Night Concert
The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 15 of Nassau County and Massapequa, presents an evening of Irish entertainment with live traditional Irish music by the Gabe Hickey Band, and featuring Champion Irish step dancers with an additional performance by the Tara Pipes and Drums of Massapequa. Festivities start at 7 p.m. at Brady Park on Front St. in the village of Massapequa Park. Homemade Irish soda bread, giftware and refreshments will be available. The Odd Couple
Presented by The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children With Cancer. Inc. The fun and family-oriented show is based on Neil Simon’s Broadway play about two men – one a neat freak and the other a slob – attempting to share an apartment despite their lifestyle and housekeeping differences. Performances will take place in the auditorium of Maria Regina RC Church in Seaford at 7 p.m. on both days. Tickets are $10 per person and proceeds will benefit the Sarah Grace Foundation, an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life of children with cancer while at the same time offering comfort and support to their families. The Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, will hold it’s annual July 4th Chicken Barbecue on the lawn behind the church. New Aviary at White Post Farms
The 2011 season at White Post Farms has begun and the “tweets” aren’t from twitter – they are the sounds coming from the new bird aviary at White Post Farms, 250 Old Country Rd., Melville, called Ronnie’s Birdie Landing. The large outdoor aviary is equipped with a 70 foot stream and a cascading waterfall and is home to countless colorful budgie birds and cockatiels. Birds fly freely through the landscaped area – as the public wanders through the aviary hand-feeding the birds with special feed sticks. This unique creation is the result of an idea born from Animal Farm owner Ron Brigati Jr. and his two young daughters, Sydney and Brooke. The youngest sibling Ronnie, age 3, has a rare syndrome that effects only six other children in the world. Ronnie has always enjoyed birds – and, inspired by Ronnie, the father and daughters together fully developed the idea for the aviary. The aviary is named Ronnie’s Birdie Landing after the young boy. Now Ronnie, his sisters and people of all ages who love birds can enjoy this unique experience offered only at Ronnie’s Birdie Landing. Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center
A social day care program offering socialization and stimulation to persons 60 and over. The caring staff provides innovative activities for those who can no longer attend regular senior centers because of physical and/or mental impairment. It also affords respite to caregivers allowing them valued time to devote to matters of home or personal needs. This interfaith service meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. Support groups are also held once a month on Wednesdays. Central Nassau Guidance & Counseling Services
Located at 950 South Oyster Bay Rd., Hicksville. The following programs are offered:
•The Community Program has a group for senior citizens. The Golden Years? The group is open to all people over 60 who are dealing with issues related to drugs or alcohol. This is an opportunity to talk confidentially with your peers as well as having the support and guidance of a skilled professional. Medicare and most other insurances are accepted. •A support group for those who have family members with mental illness meets Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. The fee is $5 per family. Therapeutic and supportive services to people hampered in their functioning by mental illness, psychological difficulties and/or substance abuse and addiction problems is provided. Among its services, the agency provides outpatient mental health services for children and adults living in Nassau County. The staff is comprised of psychiatrists, registered nurses and certified social workers. Call 822-6111.
•An outpatient substance abuse agency offering a Parenting Group on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. This group specializes in parenting issues for substance abusers as well as parents whose children use drugs. While drug use among teens has declined in other parts of the country, it continues to rise here in Nassau County. For information on this group as well as other services, call 822-4060. •Women’s Domestic Issues group provides support and education to women experiencing domestic conflict, child abuse, substance abuse and related issues. The focus will be on education, support as well as empowerment and proactive behavior. Issues related to the family and the legal system will be addressed. The group will be held on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Preregistration required. Call 822-4060.
•Young Adult Drug Addiction Group for people 18 to 21 who are recovering from drug addiction. The goals are to enhance skills, increase self-awareness and work toward a drug and alcohol free life. The group meets Thursdays at 8 p.m. Call 822-4060. All inquiries are confidential.
•Volunteers are needed by Central Nassau Guidance & Counseling Services to help staff the Pretty New Thrift Shop, 238 Main St., Farmingdale. The volunteers help raise much needed funds for the agency so that mental health and substance abuse programs can continue to be provided to the residents of Hicksville and the surrounding communities.
