Ten-year-old Joseph Vitiello, a student at the Hillside Grade School, New Hyde Park, has been picked to travel to Orlando to attend The Winter World Championships baseball tournament during the Christmas break.
At that time he will be playing against other state teams for the championship title.
Currently he is playing baseball on the New Hyde Park Athletic Travel Team and on the Long Island Mudcats Travel Team. He played on Little League teams all spring and summer.
At the end of September he went for an intensive day-long tryout for the New York State Stars and Stripes Travel Team. The results took a month, but he was recently notified that he made the team.
Vitiello has been playing baseball since he was 4-years old and spends all of his free time either playing baseball, watching it or going for lessons and numerous clinics. In fact, he spends all of his summer vacation at St. John’s Baseball Camp and won the Super Hustler Award two years in a row.
Vitiello plays second base, short-stop and at times third base. He is the son of Diane and Vito Vitiello, of New Hyde Park.
