The 23rd annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Farmingdale’s Village Green, on December 2 was truly a community endeavor. So many contributed their time and talents to ensure that this holiday tradition remains a part of the fabric that is Farmingdale.
First, a round of applause must be given to the Beautification Committee for their work decorating the Green so professionally in time for the event. The excellent Third Grade Chorus represented the Farmingdale Public Schools from the Northside School.
Led by maestro Judy Feuss, and accompanied by Ed Kozlowski of the High School, the talented, stalwart youngsters regaled the audience with songs of the season.
Jeff Pritzker, from the district Audio-Visual Department, provided and monitored the sound system used by the chorus, greetings from dignitaries, and the emcee for the evening, Erika Felker of the East Memorial School.
Once again the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, Debbie Podolski, president, sponsored the festive South Shore Brass Ensemble, who have been a major part of the Tree Lighting Ceremony for all 23 years.
The Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society and its President Mildred Johnston provided refreshments for all the performers and guests.
What could be better than hot chocolate and cookies after singing Christmas carols outdoors on a winter’s evening?
Andy Fisch, superintendent of Public Works, was the “go to” man for the nuts and bolts of the ceremony. Anything that was needed was promptly provided. And all of this was planned and supported by Mayor George Starkie, the Village administration, and the Board of Trustees. Thanks to all for your help and support for year 23. Farmingdale looks forward to number 24.
