The Board of Fire Commissioners, Chiefs and Officers of the Levittown Fire District regret to announce the passing of ex-fire commissioner and active member Frank J. Scarangella, 74, after a brief illness. He answered his final alarm on Dec. 7, 2011. Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He joined the Levittown Fire Department Engine Co.2 in 1970, located at the Hickory Lane firehouse. He was elected by Levittown residents to the office of fire commissioner in 1980 and served six five-year terms, before leaving office.
At the time of his retirement he was deputy commissioner of the Town of Hempstead Highway Department. He served as president of the Town of Hempstead Employee Federal Credit Union. He also served as a director of the Vocational Education & Extention Board (VEEB.) He was a member of the Sons of Italy. He will always be remembered as Santa’s helper for many years to the delight of local children. He looked forward to that every year.
He is survived by his wife Pat of 51 years, loving father of Loretta Johnson (Kurt) and Dina Barbour (Stephen). Dear brother of Marianne Curry, cherished grandfather of Maxwell, Amy, Tyler and Taylor. He was escorted to Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, passing under several U.S. flag arches by the members and apparatus of his department.
