Since Entourage signed off HBO a year ago, there have been plenty of rumors suggesting that the hit show may be making its way to the big screen.
Now, a new report explains that a film about the popular show may get off the ground as soon as next year.
According to hypable, a movie version of Entourage may start filming in January 2013. Creator Doug Ellin is currently writing the script, according to the report.
This isn’t the first time a movie about a close group of friends following character Vincent Chase around the highly competitive world of Hollywood has come up.
During a recent appearance on Today, executive producer Mark Wahlberg was asked if the people behind the show were thinking about moving the show to the big screen.
“Yeah, Doug Ellin is actually writing the script right now,” he said. The character Vincent Chase is loosely based off of Wahlberg’s life.
Wahlberg also visited the topic of a movie in an interview with GQ magazine. He said there were complaints that the half-hour comedy was too short, adding, “I think a 90-minute movie of sheer craziness—the guys getting back to just being about the guys, you know? Lose the ladies. Go crazy. Give people what they want.”
The hugely popular show first aired in 2004. The show starred Adrian Grenier (Chase), Kevin Connolly (Eric Murphy), Kevin Dillon (Vincent’s brother, Johnny Chase), Jerry Ferrara (Turtle), and, of course, Jeremy Piven (foul-mouthed agent, Ari Gold).
The show followed Chase and his tight group of friends who left their hometown of Queens to support the young actor in Los Angeles.
The show’s final episode aired last year.
