Florence W. Schuler was born on July 16, 1921 and died on May 16, 2014. Her parents were Al and Elizabeth Westee. She was born in New York City and resided in Mineola for most of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Walter C. Schuler and her sister, June Enzel.
She is survived by her two brothers, Al Westee and Donald Westee. She is also survived by her two sons, Richard Schuler of Jupiter, FL and William Schuler (Madeline) of Mineola.
Her surviving grandchildren are, Allison Liebnitzky (Jason), Michael Schuler and Eric Schuler. Her great-grandchildren are Ella, Kylee, and Connor Liebnitzky. Florence was active in the local Lions Club in North Palm Beach and used to like to sing out the kitchen window. She was a loving, caring person who always put the needs and feelings of other above her own. She had a gift for making people feel good about themselves and was always there with a loving gesture, a compliment or encouragement.
As a young woman she was a talented musician and played the violin. She finished second place in the 1936 New York World’s Fair beauty contest where her talent for the violin was on display. She was, above all, a wonderful wife and mother who would truly rather light a candle than curse the darkness.
There will be no services at her request. The family would like to thank Beverly McLawrence, her caregiver of recent years for her kindness. Florence would prefer that each of her friends do an unexpected kindness for someone in her memory or send a donation to hospice.
