Movie: Wish I Was Here
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library presents a 2:30 p.m. showing of the film Wish I Was Here. Aidan Bloom (Zach Braff), a 35-year-old father who’s never quite grown up, learns about life when he’s forced to homeschool his kids, since their grandfather can no longer afford their private school tuition and their public school is unsuitable. Also featured are Josh Gad, Ashley Greene and Kate Hudson. 1 hour 47 minutes (Rated R)

The Mid-Island Y JCC presents singer Gary Piacentini at 11:30 a.m. for its Wednesday Circle. This club focuses on social, recreational and educational experiences of the 75-plus generation. Event is free for JCC members and $10 for non-members.

The Mid-Island Y JCC offers a discussion of “Through the President’s Keyhole” with Martha Kolodkin during its Thursday Circle at 12:30 p.m. Join the circle and enjoy a variety of social and educational activities for those wishing to meet new friends and develop new interests. This event features trivia, gossip and little-known stories about an array of U.S. presidents. Event is for those ages 65-plus and is free for members and $10 for non-members. Do you know which president was a hangman? Who was taught to read by his wife? Which president won a spelling bee at age 10? Who invented the lazy Susan? Learn about these stories and many more. Hear the anecdotes that are happy, sad, poignant, or coincidental. Come and listen to Martha Kolodkin, a veteran teacher of American History at both the high school and university levels as she walks you through the stories of various administrations.

Art Presentation
Art Collector and lecturer Ivy Chang gives an audio-visual presentation on Qin Shi Huang (260 BC-210BC), China’s first Emperor. During the 37 year Qin Dynasty, major reforms were enacted and many significant landmarks were created, including the Great Wall. The event takes place at 2 p.m. in the auditorium.

Praying With Fire
Every month, Temple Chaverim, 1050 Washington Ave. in Plainview, will focus on the formation of Jewish Prayer. From the earliest recordings in the Torah to more recent inventions and reinventions, Temple Chaverim will explore the path that prayer has taken within Judaism and the way it has shaped meaning for our people for thousands of years. Movie: Jersey Boys
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library presents one showing at 2:30 p.m. of Jersey Boys. Adapted from the 2006 Tony Winner for Best Musical, this bittersweet saga dramatizes the rise and fall of Frankie Valli (John Lloyd Young) and the Four Seasons, on their journey from the wrong side of the tracks in Newark, New Jersey to international fame. Profiles: William Still and the Underground Railroad
Dr. William Thierfelder returns to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library for his monthly series Profiles. At 2 p.m., he will discuss William Still and the Underground Railroad. Often called “the Father of the Underground Railroad,” Still helped as many as 800 slaves escape to freedom during the Civil War era. He kept detailed records of each person to aid in the future reunion of family members who became separated under slavery. After the Civil War, Still published his authoritative account, The Underground Railroad Records (1872), based on the secret notes he had kept in diaries during those years. His book has been integral to the history of those years.

The Guthrie Brothers
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library welcomes The Guthrie Brothers for “Scarborough Fair: A Simon and Garfunkel Experience” at 3 p.m. in the auditorium. The Guthrie Brothers discovered how effortlessly their voices blended the first time they sang a Simon and Garfunkel song together. Since then, the overwhelmingly positive reactions of their audiences has kept them singing such favorite tunes as “Mrs. Robinson,” “Scarborough Fair,” “Homeward Bound” and many more.

Stock Market Investing Seminar
At the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library at 6:45 p.m., Cindy Faber, instructor for TD Ameritrade, will demonstrate the advanced thinkorswim trading platform, including tools for trading without being chained to a computer. She also reviews select trading strategies and present ways to use options to help manage risk. Faber has nearly 20 years’ trading experience. As a registered representative and instructor for TD Ameritrade, she presents ways to use stock option tools to help manage risk and implement trading strategies in your trading account.
