The chief’s office along with the officers and members of the Protection Engine Company # 1 with deep regret announced today the passing of Ex-Captain Salvatore Zimbardi, 54-year member of the Protection Engine Company and the Port Washington Fire Department.
A viewing will be held at Fairchilds Funeral Home in Manhasset on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Department services will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m. in class A uniform.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Burial to follow at the Nassau Knowles Cemetery.
Zimbardi has an extensive list of community involvement. He has been a member of the John Michael Marino Lodge #1389 Order of the Sons of Italy in America for over 38 years, a retired police commissioner of the Port Washington Police District serving 12 years, a member of the Lions Club, treasurer and member of the board of directors of Port Counseling Center and the Port Washington Senior Citizens and president of the Port Washington Exempt Firemen’s Benevolent Association. He has been instrumental in the management and longevity of the annual Pride in Port.
