LI Buick Club Meeting
Monthly meeting for the Long Island Chapter of the Buick Club of America, an organization dedicated to encouraging the maintenance, restoration, preservation and enjoyment of all models of Buicks produced by the Buick Motor Division of General Motors. This event is free, but annual dues are $15 and membership in the National Buick Club of America is required for membership in the local chapter. Ownership of a Buick automobile is not required to be a member. From 8 to 10 p.m. at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa. Call 516-785-2173 for more information.

Writing Our Stories
The library’s writing group for senior citizens will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Bar Harbour children’s room. All are welcome.

AARP Defensive Driving
Come get a discount on your insurance. Fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Payment is by check or money order made out to AARP. A separate check must be submitted for each person taking the class. Class size is limited. Register at the Reference Desk at either the Bar Harbour or Central Avenue building. From 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bar Harbour auditorium.

The Late Movie: Everest
In this adventure docudrama set in 1996, several groups of professional climbers successfully scale Mount Everest only to be faced with tragedy when a monster storm surprises them as they attempt to make their descent. Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke and John Hawkes. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur. (2015; PG-13, 121 minutes). From 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Central Avenue children’s room.

Adopt-A-Battalion Soldier’s Drive
Come help put care packages together for troops overseas. Looking for personal care items, seasonings and hot sauces and items other than candy. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Island Knight of Columbus Council, 2 Eastgate Rd., Massapequa Park.

Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser
The Nassau-Queens-Brooklyn District Order Of The Eastern Star is holding a fundraising walk-a-thon to benefit the AMT Children Of Hope Foundation and Baby Safe Haven. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. inside the Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa. Join at the lower level in front of Sears. Shed the Meds
Come to the Massapequa Park train station far east parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon and drop off your unwanted medication. Come in and enjoy a game of Scrabble from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Bar Harbour meeting room.

Teen Takeover Mondays
Every Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., teens get to take over the auditorium. Enjoy open play with video games on Wii U and XBOX 360, play Minecraft, check out the collection of board games and hang out with friends every Monday in the Bar Harbour auditorium. Wednesday, April 20
Massapequa Park Garden Club
The Massapequa Park Garden Club will hold its annual floral demonstration and raffle at 7 p.m. The theme this year is “Aloha” and the evening will be as Hawaiian as club members can make it. The floral demonstration will be presented by Gail Klubnick and Susan Jaccard-Bayens of Tim’s Florist in Massapequa Park. All of their creations will be raffled off after the demonstration. There will also be raffles of baskets, gift certificates and a money tree. Coffee and desserts will be served. The event will be held downstairs at Massapequa Park Village Hall, 151 Front St., Massapequa Park. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. Movie: Steve Jobs
The Bar Harbour auditorium will show a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie Steve Jobs. Inventor, innovator, iconoclast; Steve Jobs was all of these and more. Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter. Starring: Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen. (2015; R, 2 hrs).

Summer Reading Program Volunteers Needed
Applications for the Plainedge Library’s summer reading program are now available in the children’s department for Plainedge School district students entering grades 6 and up. No previous volunteer experience necessary. Community service credit furnished upon request. In order to effectively schedule volunteers in time for the summer, all applications need to be submitted to a children’s librarian by Friday, May 13 the latest, no exceptions.
