Chaminade high school journalism students recently had an impressive showing at the New York Press Association (NYPA) Spring Convention, where they took home several awards, including one for best high school newspaper.

Editors-in-chief Andrew Bandini and Guy J. LaCognata, senior news editor Julian Mancini, and senior sports editor Darius Iraj traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY for the annual press convention. The students attended seminars where they learned more about journalism, as well as were recognized with several awards. The Tarmac, Chaminade’s student-run paper, was named best high school newspaper in the state, as well as swept the best column category; Class of 2015 students Julian Mancini won first, LaCognata won second and Michael Brunetti won third, with Bandini receiving the honorable mention award. Senior Thomas Crean won second place for best feature story, junior Sean Maleady won honorable mention for best sports story, Class of 2015 grad George Olvany won honorable mention for best news story and Class of 2014 grad James Napolitano received an honorable mention for best feature story. The Tarmac was also awarded an honorable mention for best photography.
