Kids love the volunteers at Adventures in Learning.

Adventures in Learning held its annual Volunteer Day ceremony, honoring local Manhasset and Great Neck High School students for their contributions. They tutored and assisted Adventures in Learning (AIL) students with their afterschool homework assignments in addition to developing various projects from beautifying classrooms to science and the arts.

The ceremony began with the presentation by North Hempstead Councilwoman Anna Kaplan’s of Town Certificates to each volunteer student. She thanked them for their commitment of time and dedication to the AIL students.

After the awarding of certificates, the Adventures family that included staff, parents, grandparents and children also honored the late Jaime Peters, an AIL volunteer who passed away earlier this year. A plaque in his memory was presented to Jaime’s mother and father, Linda Okun and Paul Peters, who accepted it on behalf of the Peters family in their son’s memory. Diana Holden, Executive Director of Adventures, noted that “Jaime was very special and much loved by the Adventures’ community. He is missed ever so much. We are most thankful to the Peters family for sharing him with us.”

Holden thanked the high school volunteers and “stressed the importance of charitable work in their lives. In addition, everyone at Adventures in Learning is most grateful for your dedication and effort with our students. There is no doubt that you have had a significant impact on their lives. We and they are most appreciative.”

Founded nearly 50 years ago by the Congregational Church in Manhasset, Adventures in Learning is a nonprofit organization. The after-school education and enrichment program, located in the Hagedorn Community Center at the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC building at 65 High Street, Manhasset, is dedicated to improving the lives of children in Manhasset and Great Neck who are in need of afterschool care and instruction.
