Enjoy Farmingdale Cultural Arts Day

MayorCol BThe arts are alive and thriving in Farmingdale Village. Join the community at Farmingdale Cultural Arts Day on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Gazebo on the Village Green, 361 Main St. Cultural Arts Day will feature music, dance and theater performances, starting at noon, in conjunction with Art in the Park featuring more than 30 artists on the Village Green. The events are free to attend, bring your family, friends, and chairs or a blanket to watch performances (some seating and a shade tent will be provided).

The eighth annual Art in the Park exhibit, show and sale, on the Village Green, will feature about 30 artists and ribbons will be awarded. Plus check out the amazing clothesline art by the kids on display. Art in the Park will feature original works in oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, mixed media, drawings, photography and more.

The Cultural Arts Day schedule of performances and activities start at noon with a welcome and the opening of the art show and exhibit. At 12:15 p.m. the Farmingdale Public Library presents Children’s Storytime—bring the family and meet Toy Story characters.

MayorCol AFarmingdale’s Step by Step Dance Company performs at 1 p.m., followed by a children’s theater performance by BroadHollow Theater at 2 p.m. of Disney’s Alladin. A music performance by Jackie Romeo is set for 3:30 p.m. and the Art in the Park exhibit show and sale concludes at 4 p.m. with an awards presentation.

Performances continue at the gazebo into the evening and feature musical acts: Wayne Krush and Phil Simone at 5 p.m., followed by School of Rock Farmingdale at 6 p.m. and Maria Rose at 6:30 p.m. The evening wraps up with The Muse Exchange performance starting at 8 p.m. The acts and schedule are subject to change. While in the village, remember to shop and dine downtown. In the event that there is inclement weather, a rain date of Sept. 23, has been set.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Farmers Market will be held in conjunction with these events on Main Street in front of the firehouse. Main Street will be closed from Prospect Street to the parking lot entrance of Minuteman Press during the Farmers Market. Thanks to the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee and the Women’s Club of Farmingdale for planning the events.

Free admission and free parking is available in the village parking lots, along Conklin, on Main Street, neighboring streets and in train station lots (after 4 p.m. without permits Monday to Friday, and on weekends all day). Additional parking is available behind the Village Green in the Weldon E. Howitt Middle School parking lot off of Cherry Street.
