The Mineola Board of Trustees will be hosting a series of holiday festivities, they announced at a public meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
“It’s Christmas in Mineola, there are lots of fun things going on,” Deputy Mayor Janine Sartori said.
The village will host a winter wonderland with music, lights and a warm tent in Memorial Park over the weekend of Dec. 6 and 7.
Mayor Paul Periera said that the annual Mineola tree lighting will take place Friday, Dec 5, at 7 p.m.
“At Village Hall, we’ll have hot chocolate and s’mores. We’ll have music and opportunities for young and old to meet the Jolly Ol’ Fella,” he said.
Trustees also invited residents to participate in winter charity programs such as Operation Santa, hosted by the Mineola Fire Department, and Toys for Tots at the Mineola Memorial Library.
“During the holiday season, I’m getting lots of calls from the Blood Bank. If you’re able to donate, the holiday season is always tough for them,” Trustee Donna Solosky said. “And donate to any food pantries that are out there. Times are tough for a lot of people.”
Some matters of village business were also completed, such as the approval for East Gate Security, Inc. to provide security for Memorial Park over weekends in December.
The board also approved a “No Stopping” sign at 49 Windsor Ave., road closures for a Corpus Christi Church Devotional Procession and a Service Award one-time payment to volunteer fireman Robert Olds.
