Mineola High School recognized outstanding student-athletes at the annual Mineola Community Basketball Night on Tuesday, Jan. 6, honoring Ryan Manu and Julianna Plunkett with the Mineola Basketball Leadership Awards.

These awards are presented to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership on and off the court, embodying the values of teamwork, dedication and community engagement. Ryan and Julianna were celebrated for their commitment to excellence, sportsmanship and for serving as role models for their peers.

The awards were presented during a packed evening at the Mineola High School gym, which also featured varsity basketball games against Plainedge, performances by the Mineola Pep Band and Cheer Team, and a stirring rendition of the national anthem by Penelope Buhler.

Local youth teams and families joined the community celebration, making the night a true showcase of Mineola pride. “Ryan and Julianna exemplify the leadership, character and integrity that we hope to cultivate in all our students,” said Christopher McCann, supervisor of Physical Education, Health and Athletics. “Their contributions to Mineola Basketball extend far beyond the scoreboard, and we are proud to recognize them in front of our community.”

The Mineola Basketball Leadership Awards highlight the district’s commitment to fostering student growth both academically and athletically, and to celebrating those who positively influence their peers and community.
