Manhasset Public Schools announced Thomas Grygiel as valedictorian and Blake Ashenberg as salutatorian of the Manhasset High School Class of 2026.
Grygiel has been recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. He is a member of the National, Tri-M, science, Spanish and social studies honor societies and serves as president of the Math Honor Society. He has also represented the school in vocal performance at the All-County, All-State, All-Eastern and All-National levels, including selection to the ACDA All-National Choir.
He serves as president of the Student Senate Executive Board, where he helps coordinate communication among student organizations. A four-year varsity swimmer and team captain, Grygiel qualified for the state championships this season.
Ashenberg is a High Honor Roll student and a member of several honor societies, including National, science, math, English, Spanish, social studies and Tri-M. He has completed a rigorous academic program that includes advanced engineering courses, multivariable calculus and Advanced Placement coursework.
He serves as president of the Engineering Club and the band program and as a Student Senate representative for the 1680 History Club. Since 2022, Ashenberg has volunteered as a tutor for middle and high school students in math, science and English.
Ashenberg is captain of the boys varsity volleyball team, earning All-Conference and scholar-athlete honors, and also competes in travel volleyball, baseball and CYO basketball.
He is an alto saxophonist who has performed with the All-County Band, earned top NYSSMA scores and participated in the school’s marching, pep and jazz bands.
The district congratulated both students on their achievements.
