LONG ISLAND PRESS PATRONS

The following corporations are the exclusive underwriters of this website.

The ownership and staff of the Long Island Press are extremely grateful for the unrelenting support of our newspaper these companies have exhibited over the past several years. When we decided to cease the printed product of the Long Island Press and move our content strictly online, we asked these companies if they would continue their support of our journalism by offering financial support in return for promotional consideration throughout the site. Every one of them agreed to participate in this program without hesitation. As patrons of this site, they have agreed to respect the editorial independence of our newsroom, which allows us to work at our craft unfettered by undue external influence.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Alure TopImage01

The nature of information has changed forever. The sheer volume of it, the way it’s delivered, the very manner in which we consume it. At the Long Island Press, we believe information should be free. Always have. This is why our newspaper was complimentary and access to our website has always been open. For us it’s about the work. Shining a light into the darkness, speaking truth to power and holding figures of authority accountable for their actions. Sometimes, we just have something funny or clever to share. Other times, the news we report is rather mundane. But no matter how big or small a story might be, we believe it’s important to someone and therefore we want as many people to have access to our stories in as many ways as possible.

We no longer publish the Long Island Press in the traditional newsprint format. The fact of the matter is our readership in print has been declining while our digital readership has grown exponentially. What makes a business such as ours so complex is the delicate balance of reaching out for advertising support while maintaining journalistic integrity. This struggle is hardly unique to us. In fact, it is a phenomenon playing out all over the world as a result of the ever-changing nature of the news and information business. So we decided to stop struggling with it and take a journalistic approach to our conundrum.

As journalists we tell stories that rely on transparency. So in the interest of full disclosure, we have decided to share our business model with the public. Openly, honestly and transparently. These are our sponsors. Without them, we could not possibly provide this service to the public. Because we are a for-profit organization we cannot access foundation grants or solicit charitable donations. Therefore, we asked these specific companies to fund this endeavor with the understanding that editorial decisions are entirely that of the Long Island Press.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
