Edward R. Schluter Jr.
Edward R. Schluter Jr., 92, of Halcottsville, NY, died on July 11, 2009 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville, NY. He was born on July 23, 1916 in Oyster Bay, the son of Edward R. Schluter and Lillian Puvogel.
Ed was a captain in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 78th Division, 309th Regiment, Cannon Company, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was an active member and past chief of the Hicksville Fire Dept. as well as a founding member of the Firemaster Benevolent Association. He had been a resident of Halcottsville since 1980 and a member of the Halcottsville Fire Dept. Ed was a self-employed construction engineer in Hicksville. Ed married Matilda Erb on Oct. 16, 1946 in Mechanicsville, NY.
He is survived by one daughter, Christine Maloney; two sons, Edward R. Schluter III (Linda) and William (Bill) (Joy); four grandsons, Theodore (Tod) Velsor (Dawn), Christopher Velsor (Tara), Edward R. Schluter IV (Melissa) and Timothy (Kelly); two great-grandsons, Edward V and Ryan; and three great-granddaughters, Lillian, Gwedalyn and Hayley.
Ed was predeceased by his wife Matilda (Tillie) who died on May 12, 1988; brothers, Jake and Harvey; and sister Edith.
Arrangements were made by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, NY. Graveside service at Kelly Corners Cemetery with Rev. Bert More officiating.
