Carisa Giardino, former editor of the Floral Park Dispatch, was honored for her work at the village board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Mayor Kevin Greene presented her with a proclamation in her honor and spoke of her hard work over the past nine years.
“During this past decade, the Floral Park Dispatch has provided fair, balanced, and timely information through Carisa’s stewardship, reporting on significant events in the village from the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the early days of the Floral Park Conservation Society transformation of a storm basin to the beautiful Centennial Gardens and Bird Sanctuary, the founding of the Floral Park Historical Society Museum, to the incredible and varied celebrations throughout the village for the Village Centennial,” said Mayor Greene. “Carisa has become a valued member of the Floral Park community, which she has thoroughly chronicled over the past nine years. With a professional approach, attention to detail and reporting on important issues for the community such as the third track mega project, future of the Belmont Park, and new legislation effecting the village dissolution, she gave elected officials and community leaders both a forum to be heard and to be challenged.”
After Mayor Greene presented Carisa with the proclamation, Dennis McEnery added his personal thanks to Carisa for all of her hard work. “In particular, due to my close association with the Floral Park Conservation Society, we know that she always made a point to publicize our Make A Difference Day celebrations and she always gave publicity and information to the public on the third track mega project.”
On the third track mega project, Trustee Thomas Tweedy also added, “One of the things that the Anton newspaper brought to Floral Park and the third track task force efforts was that the Anton newspaper made the expense of going online, which made our message more prominent, as it was heard not only in Floral Park and Nassau County but also in Albany and the halls of congress. It really made a difference, and it became a form of media that got the message out to many and we certainly appreciate Anton News and Carisa’s work.”
