Jean Harvey Sack
Jean Harvey Sack, of Locust Valley and East Norwich and more recently of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Jan. 31, 2010. Born March 29, 1923, in Stranraer, Scotland, Jean immigrated to the U.S. in May of 1927 with her mom and brothers aboard the ship Transylvania, where they were met in New York Harbor by her dad, who had arrived ahead of them.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Sack; and her five children: Russell and Ellen Sack of Novato, CA, Chuck and Jill Sack of Austin, TX, Barbara and Jim Brooks of Austin, TX, Gerry and Angelo Curro of Golden, CO, and Vance and Meg Sack of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jenny Sack, Emily and husband John Cunnie, Joss and Rory McKernan, Dylan and Stuart Sack, Stephen and Nina Curro and Rebecca and Stephanie Sack.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Vance and Elizabeth Harvey, and her two brothers, Vance and James Harvey of Glen Head and Locust Valley.
Jean was a devoted wife and mother and had the opportunity to travel internationally with her husband and in her own words said that, “after visiting many less fortunate countries, it makes me thankful to be an American citizen.”
The loves of her life were her handsome Marine, her children and grandchildren, and the sound of the ocean, as Jean was always drawn to the beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials on her behalf to the Salvation Army, an organization that Jean was particularly fond of for the good work they provide. A memorial service was held in Jean’s honor at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach on Feb. 2. The family extends their sincere gratitude for the loving care provided by the critical care and hospice staffs at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
