NBA player, Matt Barnes announced his split with “Basketball Wives” star, Gloria Govan this week through an emailed statement.
“I’d like to address the rumors surrounding mine and Gloria’s relationship,” the statement read. “We have reached the difficult decision of ending our relationship and will be going our separate ways at this time. We will work together to raise our sons and wish each other only the best.”
Signs that the relationship was going sour came through Twitter earlier this month when someone reportedly suggested the former Los Angeles Lakers player should marry Govan or someone else will. He tweeted, “He can have her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Govan also spoke out on Twitter with a post Saturday, “If someone is dumb enough to walk away, be smart enough to let them go. Your destiny is never tied to anyone who leaves you.”
But signs of a rocky relationship were evident earlier as they called off their engagement. Later, the couple made headlines when Barnes was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, which the couple both denies. The charges were eventually dropped. Gloria explained what happened on an episode of the VH1 show.
“We were arguing, I was leaving to New York and he didn’t want me to go..I was going to fashion week. I think it was kind of all of our bickering throughout the summer, us canceling the wedding, us not knowing what the **** we’re doing and all this other stuff, obviously the kids and you know, not knowing where to go,” she reportedly said. “Everything kind of was like a volcano and then just burst.”
Gloria is best known for her role on “Basketball Wives” where she stars alongside other women who have had relationships with famous basketball stars like Jackie Christie and her sister Laura Govan. On a recent episode of the show, the couple, who has 3-year-old twins, Carter Kelly and Isiah Michael, held a charity event.
