Rumors are swirling this week that singer Ashanti is gearing up to take Fergie’s place in the Black Eyed Peas.

Earlier, the band announced they would be taking a break and that the lead singer would step back to start a family with husband Josh Duhamel—Fergie is reportedly going to play her last show with the band November 23.

This week, according to Media Take Out, the band may not be taking a break instead, Ashanti may be replacing Fergie.

Currently, Ashanti is on tour with the Black Eyed Peas. She’s been absent from the charts since 2005 and before that was made popular with hits ‘Foolish,’ and ‘Happy,’ among others.

Her last album was ‘The Declaration,” which was released in 2008 failed to make a buzz but according to Music News, she’s set to try again with the release  of a new album in 2012.

News that the band will be replacing fan favorite, Fergie, came as a shock to most. But many don’t realize the band was around since 1995 and together some six years before Fergie joined. Of course, with the addition of the petite singer, the band shot to stardom and has been producing massive hits ever since.

The band first announced their possible break back in July at their Alton Towers concert.

“We want you to know that we love you and thank you for the support you’ve given from the beginning,” said Fergie. “This isn’t going to be the last time you’ll see us.”

“The @Bep will take a break after the beginning…just like we did from monkey business to the e.n.d…but it doesn’t mean we stop creating,” tweeted Will.i.am.

Many assumed this would be just another of the band’s many hiatuses—Their last was from 2005 to 2009—but with rumors of Ashanti replacing Fergie, who knows what the future of the Black Eyes Peas is.
