Renovations, Pearl Harbor ceremonies, and new additions are among some of the recent activities at Farmingdale’s own American Airpower Museum. Located at Republic Airport, the Airpower Museum is home to war aircraft and vehicles dating back to World War II.
Gary Lewi of the Airpower Museum shared some of the exciting things coming up for the museum. “We are particularly proud of the exhibits,” said Lewi. There are several aircraft already on display at the museum, ranging from bombers from WWII to fighter jets dating back to 1967. The Airpower Museum is continuing to strengthen their collection of operation armor to add to their aircraft and compliment the collections on display.
On Dec. 7 the museum held its ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941. For this anniversary, the Airpower Museum honored those lost and those that fought. The ceremonies included the Blessing of Roses, which were flown by Texan aircraft operated by the GEICO Skytypers. They drop the blessed roses over the Statue of Liberty, according to Lewi. The Airpower Museum is always proud to present these ceremonies on this anniversary.
This year begins more projects and new additions to the museum as well. The museum will proceed to work in the next year to bring the exhibits back to full display. In the next year, the museum’s massive Navy patrol boat from WWII will also be restored and have its wings reattached. According to Lewi, “This is a challenging undertaking and being made possible with the corporate support of Polimeni International.”
The American Airpower Museum will have a lot more to offer in the next year and several projects coming up to expand their aircraft and exhibits.
