While introducing the electronic dance music sensation Avicii, Madonna essentially asked the the crowd was high on drugs during her show at Ultra Music Festival.
The beginning of the introduction started innocently, “I’ve been here in spirit for many years but it’s good to finally be on the stage. I see flags from all around the world. In my world the words music and dance are not separated. Electronic music has been apart of my life since the beginning of my career I can honestly say that a DJ saved my life.”
But then she questioned if the audience had seen Molly, “I have a few questions for you How many of you have seen Molly? Whoo! Are you ready to dance? Are you ready to sweat? Are you ready to make some noise? Are you ready for the next DJ mother f*ckers?”
She wasn’t asking about a DJ named Molly. She was referencing the drug MDMA, the active chemical in ecstasy.
The crowd may have responded with cheers, but EDM star Deadmau5, Joel Zimmerman, was disturbed by Madge’s behavior.
He went to his Twitter and Facebook pages to rant about Madonna’s questions for the audience. He said, “Very classy there madonna. “HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???” such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra.” He also said, “quite the f’n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! f—ing cant smack my head hard enough right now.”
“I can appriciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE F— WAS THAT?” he continued. “That’s your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? f— off you f—ing IDIOT.”
