Picture 72Tom Cruise lights up the stage in the new “Rock Of Ages” trailer.

In the newly released trailer, Cruise takes the stage rocking leather pants, black boots and no shirt while belting out famous Bon Jovi lyrics.

The highly-anticipated upcoming summer film is set in the 1980s Los Angeles where two young people chase their dreams and fall in love but it seems, in the trailer at least, that Cruise may be the shinning star, as it so happens in most movies he appears in.

In “Rock Of Ages” Cruise portrays an ‘80s rock star Stacee Jaxx and is seen showing off a bunch of tattoos, long brown hair, muscles and a monkey friend.

But Cruise is just one of a major star-studded cast that was put together by Director Adam Shankman. Other notable actors in the big screen adaptation of the Broadway show is Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones, singer Mary J. Blige, and Malin Akerman.

“I knew in my heart he would never put himself in harm’s way about taking on a part if he didn’t think he could deliver,” Shankman once told EW of Cruise. “So it wasn’t until our first go around with his voice lesson that we sort of looked at each other and went, ‘This is gonna work!’ And we were basically dancing around the living room and high-fiving each other because he actually has a fantastic voice.”

The movie was spawned from the Broadway musical. “Rock of Ages” is a humorous musical built around classic rock hits from the 1980s and features songs from Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twister Sister, Steve Perry, Poison, Asia and Styx.

The movie hits theaters June 15. Check out the new trailer.
