On Wednesday, the top seven contestants were challenged to take on contemporary pieces and the results were spectacular.
The teen proved especially successful as he took the stage wearing a while blazer and belted out famous lyrics from Bruno Mars’ hit “Runaway Baby.”
“Well looky here looky here, ah what do we have? Another pretty thang ready for me to grab but little does she know that I’m a wolf in sheeps clothing ’cause at the end of the night it is her I’ll be holding,” he sings. “I love you so that’s what you’ll say, you’ll tell me baby baby please don’t go away but when I play, I never stay.”
Joshua was energetic and the crowd felt it and loved it giving him a standing ovation as he finished his performance.
“To every girl that I meet here this is what I say: run run run away, run away baby before I put my spell on you, you better get get get away get away darling ’cause everything you heard is true your poor little heart will end up alone,” he sings. “’cause lord knows I’m a rolling stone so you better run run run away run away baby.”
Another fan favorite, Phillip Phillips, impressed with a performance of Maroon 5’s “Give a Little More.” Other contestants wowed the judges and crowd too, like Jessica Sanchez who performed Jazmine Sullivan’s famous “Stuttering.” “Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez raved about Sanchez but asked if she take cue from Ledet and try to surprise with the remaining performances like he has.
